- Make sure you have the right leader. I’m talking here not just the Marketing leadership but the Company leadership. If the Company’s leader is not both sharp (bright/intelligent/experienced) and passionate about their business and the people who serve the Company’s customers, game over. The Company may still do well with a so so Leader, but it will not perform exceptionally well
- Improve your ‘customer experience’
- Treat your employees like customers
- Differentiate or die. Become famous for one thing. (as a Company and for your brands)
- Move with super urgency to understand and embrace social media, in all its forms. Appoint a “VP of Conversations” or you can call him Market Maco to give it a local slant
- Every day you wake up think about what you should do differently or how you should change your business to get ahead of the rest of the market
- Make your whole company the marketing department. Tell your people what you want to be famous for and their role in making it happen
- Understand what’s important to customers in terms of your product or service design and what influences their purchase decisions. Embrace research
- Understand that value is more important than price
- Think e-commerce
- Make your company/brand a story and keep it real
