Client-Agency relationship…partner or hired help?

When I was on the client side, I thought I was a pretty good client. (Agencies may disagree.) For example, I shared info with my agency. In particular, on how our sales were doing. Most times I would give an index vs prior year and vs current target. (just to keep the actual figures close to my chest)

But now that I’m on the agency side I rarely get back the love I doled out. And it sucks. Most clients don’t share information with their agencies. It’s like the doctor who writes a prescription but then never gets to find out if the medicine worked. If he does not hear from his patient, he assumes it did. And that’s pretty much how we agencies operate, no news is good news.

So like the doctor, we agencies might be writing bad prescriptions. And it’s not the patients fault. We need to make information exchange a condition of our engagement or they can go see another physician.
