Ok here are some Christmas memories from my childhood:
– Whitewashing walls
– Polishing the floor with Mansion floor polish; we had a heavy metal manual polisher that we attached cloths to
– Angel hair on the tree
– Chee Wees (you needed a key to open like the one on cornbeef cans)
– Peardrax with a cover with grooves that went inside the bottle
– Trips with my Mom to town (Bata on Park Street) to buy “Christmas shoes”
– Passing through Woolworth and “stealing” sweets which were on display
– We went Caroling in Newtown and got nice treats
– Treat in school on the last day (Mr Marcel was my Standard 5 teacher and he was super special that’s why he had such a high pass rate….his treat was held at the home of dollar wine man Colin Lucas who was by far the brightest boy in New Town Boys RC)
– Shandy was made mixing Carib beer and a red Solo
– On Christmas Day, my brother John’s Birthday, we played Bingo in the backyard
– We had real Christmas trees (imported)
Merry Christmas!
