What gets me upset with many people from my beloved island is that they like to bad talk everything there is to bad talk about Trinidad and Tobago and never give praise where praise is due. Left to me, I would ship them to wherever they think is better…without compensation. Anyway, I differ in that, yes I am aware of things that can be improved, but I don’t harp on them. I would note the good things and think that like osmosis, positivity spreads and begets more positivity. Thus, I write about something Trini that surprised me and made me feel nice.
I wanted to get the number for Jimmy Aboud so I did an online search. I clicked on the link and was carried to the home page. At first I thought I was in the wrong place. There was a lot of white space on the home page. You know how clients don’t like white space! Then centered on the page was what looked like a coat of arms belonging to one of royal blood, below it, the option to choose Spanish, English or some Asian language. Had it not been for the sweet pan music playing, I would have gone back to the search page. I then noticed on the coat of arms, the words Jimmy Aboud, the Textile King. Heeeeeeeeeeyyyyyyy!!! This was much more than I expected to find from a fabric store. In fact, I did not expect to find anything in the first place.
I clicked “English” and went in. Moving graphics greeted me. When all settled, I was shown images of their array of fabric plus options on reading material of their history, a glossary of fabric offered, information for the foreigner on flying to Trinidad & Tobago, information on ordering from abroad etc. This section could do with a little more of a modern look, however, overall, I love the site because I had not expected a fabric in Trinidad to see the benefit of developing a website because there are many general businesses who still do not. Kudos to whoever thought of having one for the Textile King.
