As someone who grew up in a world where ads were boring, I said to myself that I’d never work in advertising. Well, ads are still vanilla on the most part but social media has changed everything.
While commercials are traditionally synonymous with bathroom breaks, a shift is taking place. People are now seeking out content on their own and will actively click play to see an awesome ad.
One way to produce an ad that your customers and prospects will actually want to see is to tell a story that creates an emotional connection. Here are a few ads that did just that:
True Move H Giving
Thai Mobile company, True Move H has received close to 12 million Youtube views for its tearjerker ad that teaches ‘giving is the best form of communication.’ The ad begins with a restaurant owner’s act of kindness to a boy and flash forwards 30 years and the man is sick in a hospital bed. You’re going to want to see what happens next.
Guinness Wheelchair Basketball
Guinness breaks beer commercial stereotypes, celebrating masculinity in a new way in this poignant ad. Posted three weeks ago, the ad has received over 6 million Youtube views to date, leaving many with damp eyes. You’ll love its heart-warming story and its beautiful soundtrack.
British Airways India – A Ticket to Visit Mum
British Airways reunites an Indian mother and her son in this ad. The ad shows the mother preparing a meal which British Airways promised to deliver to her son who left the country when he was 17 and hadn’t returned since. Instead of taking the food to the son, the airline company did something much better.
Skype’s Stay Together Campaign
Skype shows how it keeps families and friends connected in its emotive “Stay Together” campaign. Ads included the stories of a Ugandan refugee and his family, a zookeeper who left her animal friends in Australia and a young cousin who moved to Brazil. While all the stories were touching, the first one stood out, receiving the most views.
