An armchair critic is someone who offers advice but never shows that they could actually do any better. Facebook has made it easy for us to point out everything that’s wrong with the world. But too many of us are not going the next step to actually play in the game.
So we bad talk the education system and then never go to PTA meetings and volunteer to serve. We know the Form 3 class does not have a Chemistry teacher for all of the term but we don’t step in to volunteer our recently retired Uncle.
Instead of shouting from the stands or worse, not going to the game, how about we:
- Join a NGO and serve on the Board or as a volunteer
- Do research on a problem and offer it to the organisation that can benefit from it
- Start a NGO and make a difference
- Feed some deserving Family regularly
- Volunteer in your church, mandir or mosque
- Clean the drains in your street
- Call the Police when you see anything suspicious
- All stop breaking red lights and driving on the shoulder (those of us who do)
My Father in Law Claude Lum Kang used to say; “Talk is cheap. Whisky is dear.”
