Kimberley is a beautiful, energetic seventeen year old, who is in the peak of her life. She is a form five student of Holy Name Convent and has worked hard studying for her CXC exams. Kimberley was very much looking forward to her upcoming graduation with all her friends, as this time, should be one of the best times of her life with a bright future ahead of her.
However during the past month while Kimberley was studying for her exams she started to feel unwell, fatigued and a bit tired. As time progressed the feelings seemed to become worse so Jennifer her mother, took her to the doctor who ordered a blood test. On the morning of Tuesday 31st May she was really feeling unwell but insisted on going to school to write an exam, but as she was about to get into the car her doctor called and ordered her to the hospital because her blood count was dangerously low. Being the strong, brave girl that she is, she told her mother, “I have studied hard for this exam and I need to get it done”. And so she did.
Kimberley has since that day been admitted to Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex. The doctors have told her that they are ninety nine percent sure that she has a sickness called Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia this is to be confirmed from a bone marrow test. This form of Leukemia is curable but very aggressive and needs to be treated immediately and urgently. Unfortunately Kimberley’s parents do not have medical insurance and do not have the funding for this very expensive treatment. She continues to have daily blood transfusions and the family has been advised to take Kimberley abroad as soon as she is stronger as there is no form of treatment in Trinidad for this type of illness.
We are therefore pleading with whoever can help financially to help Kimberley and give this beautiful young girl a chance at life.
