We are always shown the success stories of the big global brands or the big names in advertising who are at the top of their game. We are motivated by their example, hoping to achieve similar success. That is noble, but what about the failures? What about those ideas that just did not work? I think they are important models too.
Last night I saw a wonderful programme on marketing failures while looking at Manangement TV, a 24 hour channel with documentaries, realities, talk shows and series from all over the world related to the business world, the history of brands, entrepreneurs and the economy. The programme was called Business Nightmares. It took a look at instances where the most successful marketeers, designers and executives slipped up, making errors of epic proportion. The episode featured big brands that made marketing misjudgement that cost millions, bumbling public relations at the world’s coolest company and a crazy sales promotion that brought a trusted brand to its knees.
Luckily, it’s on Youtube and it’s great viewing and learning. The Youtube video is in four parts. I have the first part below. Continue with the rest of the episode at the end of the the video.
