As a student of marketing I’m always on the lookout for brands that are getting it right. Brands with a clear point of difference that are connecting with their tribe. Mostly I find these through reading up online (about foreign brands). Sometimes I find a local star, like El Pecos. For me this brand is built on operational excellence. For a restaurant to offer such a breath of offerings, on such a consistent basis, speaks to great project planning; including projecting, sourcing, scheduling and monitoring. And yes, they must also be prepared to throw out food or donate left overs.
A brand is a promise. Whatever the promise it makes, the challenge is to deliver it every time a customer comes into contact with it. El Pecos who was the first to introduce the “food by the pound” concept to T&T has, in my view, been keeping their promise. What is their promise? For me it’s that you will always find something you like that’s freshly made. For me it’s the ribs. For my son it’s the veggies. For my mother-in-law it’s the bbq pig tail. What’s your El Pecos?
