Today’s Gospel took me right back to Guyana and our demise 2 nights ago. The most common understanding of the parable in Matthew’s Gospel 25:14-30 is that we must use our talents or suffer the consequences. Some people bury their talent. While others take what they have and make the best of it.
So we must dig deep and recover our talent. Some think that means going local with a coach. Others believe that any recovery must start with a major shake up among the managers of football. Many say we need to have a comprehensive developmental program that’s coordinated from primary to secondary to club football stages.
Football is a sport that’s full of passion. And we have many among us who give so much to the game. People in communities who fix the ground without reward. Or community organisers who raise funds to buy equipment and uniforms for the village team. The players and coaches toil for hours in sun and rain. Corporate T&T and Governments invest a lot into the game. And the fans support their team win, lose or draw. (maybe the latter can be challenged)
The master in Matthew’s parable was a “hard man” and last Friday he made us pay. T&T football deserves better.
