Until today, I have been very tight lipped as far as blogging is concerned. However, since we’re talking about the “King of Pop” (and some subtle nudging from the boss:) I have decided to try my hand.
Michael Jackson is a mythical figure from my childhood. I remember him turning into a werewolf, dancing with zombies, gliding across the floor, transforming into a robot, dancing with clay animation characters and even flying off in a jetpack! I mean, how cool is that! I will forever have fond memories of him, no matter what has happened since my childhood. He is and always will be an icon. Unfortunately most people forgot about the magic he created until all the magic was gone. I must sadly admit that I was one of them. I grew up and forgot about Neverland.
Michael never grew up, he always kept that innocence. In a lot of ways he was better off for it. Michael Jackson was completely unselfish and supported numerous charities including AIDS Project L.A., NAACP, Juvenile Diabetes Foundation, Childhelp U.S.A. and United Negro College Fund (UNCF). These charities were only a few of the 39….let me say that again 39 DIFFERENT CHARITIES that this man supported. He set a Guiness world record here people! It was his love for children, and him wanting to make the world a better place that made him even more iconic in my eyes.
In a world where selflessness and love for our fellow man is quickly becoming a thing of the past, I am happy that people still take the time to recognize the truly exceptional figures in our lifetime.
The logo MTV (created by BBDO) used to represent MJ is a ribbon that has been used many times over to represent the fight against AIDS and Cancer, and his iconic shoes at the base of the ribbon to help represent his pants legs. So simple, clean and effective. Michael Jackson, the icon, the humanitarian, the legend. Thanks for the memories MJ. May you rest in peace.
