Art imitates life and so does Sport. In T&T we have developed some bad habits. Long story short, too many of us have lost our capacity for doing things well; the right things, in the right way. Oil has been our doing and our undoing. We need to get off our physical and mental dependency on oil and tap into the real resources that are within us.
We failed those 22 young women who tried so valiantly to take us to the World stage. We failed because our default position is always to try to buy ourselves out of our troubles because money can buy anything. (Or so we thought) So we throw more money at them in one month that we did in the previous five years.
Meanwhile Ecuador with 1/3 the per capita GDP of T&T does their work, puts their faith in a 25 year old Ecuadorean national and completes their mission with aplomb. (Of course they have 10 times our population, but size also brings its own challenges)
We really need to stop our foolishness and get back to some basics captured in those 3 words that many of our people don’t even know are supposed to be our national watchwords: Discipline, Production and Tolerance.
