I went Gyro shopping last night on the Ave. Actually it was more like Gyro targeting because I instinctively headed straight to Hassan Gyros. There I stood for about a half hour or so, a record for me standing in one place, to get Gyros for my Family.
There was a line of about 10 people and I was last in line, waiting on Hassan to serve his first Gyro for the evening. Anyone of us could have crossed the street and get immediate service. But we all waited on Hassan.
What is it about Hassan that would make that mother standing in front of me, risk the snares and stares of her tired, hungry daughter still in her St Joseph’s Convent uniform, yet still wait for Hassan?
Hassan has what no other Gyro on the Ave has. On the product side he has abundance. He makes sure you see that he is always batting for you as you watch him construct your meal and hope he puts another heaping of lamb. And then he does. We feel like Hassan has read our mind. And he has. Hassan reads our mind every evening on the Ave. We want more and he gives it.
On the service side, Hassan also serves up abundantly. He has good bedside manners. He has fun with his customers, in his own Hassan way. Game over.
What can we learn from Hassan? Be famous for one thing. His one thing is “abundance delivered with charm”.
