The movie Forest Gump won the 1994 Academy Award for Best Picture and earned $660 million worldwide. This despite it not following the formula that aspiring screenwriters are taught in order to have an interesting movie.
The star of the film, Tom Hanks, said, “Forrest Gump breaks every rule of movie making.” This is so as, “It had no bad guy, was not structured in the typical three-act format and didn’t see the main character undergo dramatic change. The movie simply followed the adventures of a simpleton who somehow ended up lucking his way through history.”*
