We don’t tell our dentist, Doc I think we should go for a general anaesthetic instead of a local one for this cavity work. Why? Because we trust our dentist because of her 10 years of study, shown by all the diplomas, degrees and honours on her wall. We also trust her because our parents started bringing us to her many years ago, and Mom is always right.
So why isn’t it the same with our Creative Doctors? Copywriters and artists went to school too. They did their English and Art Majors and many went on to do masters in film production or design. Some are highly skilled surgeons when it comes to using tools like Photoshop to use complex layers to create simple, engaging, talked about images. Some never went to University, but they know more than graduates because of innate talent and experience. But that does not make them quacks.
Why do we, with our zero qualification, feel compelled to tell the artist what colour is best for the font in the headline? (I know; I used to do it as a client) It can’t be because we are paying them because then we would be walking around with a permanent toothache.
