Three things about the new Caribbean Premier League (CPL)…their launch yesterday at Hyatt as seen on TV last night looked spectacularly unspectacular.  In cricket terms it was to me the equivalent of a duck or 3 no-balls in a row, by their mentor IPL’s standards.  It looked more like the Board Meeting of a rural Credit Union.

Then there is the picture of 4 of the coaches on the back of the Express this morning.  By now I hope they are back on display at Madame Tussauds’. 

And now for the biggie. With Digicel’s partnership in the CPL, that’s great for the CPL owners, the players and cricket fans but probably not so great for the Pro League, Steelbands, Village Councils, “hole in the hearts”, “House burn downs” and cultural events seeking financial support from the red brand for their various causes. There are only so many red backs available and some people, therefore, would be left seeing red…and that’s across the Caribbean.
