“Cutting track for goutie to run” is a local expression that means doing hard work that someone else comes along and benefits from. And often that someone else is your competition.
It’s a self inflicted wound that comes in all sizes, colors and shapes. And I’m not talking about the guy selling chive out of the back of his Land Rover in the Hilo Car Park. That’s probably illegal. I’m talking about companies that advertise heavily and when you call them the phone rings 15 times. Or giving a quotation for a job to a customer that costs you money but costs the person asking for the quote nothing. When someone has some “skin in the game” they are more likely to be responsible with their requests.
The expression “cutting track” probably has to do with what hunters do when they are out in the wild seeking their prey. It’s not unlike the corporate hunters who strategise in war rooms filled with flow charts, competitive packaging, chocolate treats and lots of adrenalin and secrecy. Sometimes there’s one other thing in the room; egos. So marketing isn’t getting along with sales and so the merchandising does not get done. Or worse the product is not delivered.
Hunters hunt with people they trust. And trust is a key component of any well oiled brand machine.
