Should Facebook be allowed to come to work? At pepper advertising we tried to ban it a few years ago but weak enforcement gave it life. At the time we were acting like a traditional media agency in a new media world. Quite frankly, it’s hypocritical of us to recommend Facebook to our clients as a means of building brand engagement while locking it out from our own people.
The obvious argument against it is that “Using social networking sites may divert employees’ attention away from more pressing priorities, so it’s understandable that some companies limit access,” said Dave Willmer, a Computerworld columnist.
Some of the arguments for that have been put forward are: rest spurs productivity and can boost employee morale.
Ultimately it comes down to people being responsible. Are you doing the best work you can, on a timely basis or are you scanning picture galleries and “whatsapping” away?
Many companies are challenged with worker absenteeism and Facebook is one more way to be absent.
